Why should you take the Pass Plus Course?

October 29, 2010

Pass Plus is an additional course offered by driving instructors for qualified drivers to expand their knowledge and driving ability. It helps newly qualified drivers deal with situations not covered in lessons or driving test, such as country driving, motorways, bad weather and driving at night. The pass plus course will cover 6 modules and last at least 6 hours in total.

The modules are as follows: –

  • in town
  • in all weathers
  • on rural roads
  • at night
  • on dual carriageways
  • on motorways

Not only does pass plus improve your driving ability, it also allow drivers to progress to take the advanced driving test which furthers the drivers skills and opens up further financial benefits.

The last and probably the most important benefit of pass plus for most would be using it to get a discount on insurance! This is a great help for new drivers when their insurance is very high to begin with.

Recently in the news, the government are calling for more to be done to reduce the amount of accidents of newly passed drivers, pass plus is the way to go. At Yes! Driving School, you can complete your pass plus course for as little as £129.00 for manual driving lessons! We can provide this course as well as normal driving lessons in Bournemouth, Poole and the surrounding area!

Changes to the Practical Driving Test

October 15, 2010

In October 2010, the DSA introduced a new element to the practical driving test! This element was introduced to put the student into a realistic scenario for driving after they have passed. It is called the Independent Driving Element. Previous to the addition of this element, learner drivers were required to perform 2 manoeuvres out of a possible 4. This has now been changed to allow this new addition, with only 1 manoeuvre required.

The student will now have to have approximately 10 minutes of independent driving, following directions, road signs or a combination of the two, to arrive at a predetermined point. Not to worry though, you will not be penalised for losing your way, or taking a wrong turning so long as you do so in a controlled safe manner. The examiner is looking at your control of the vehicle and your ability to drive safely, not your sense of direction. By putting the student under pressure of having to make their own decisions while driving, it lets the examiner get an insight to how the driver will cope after they have their full licence.

The length of the practical driving test is not thought to increase at all, only if the student takes a wrong turning or gets lost. At this point the examiner will help by getting you back on track!
